The College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology, Ranipool, Gangtok is one of the seven constituent colleges of Central Agricultural University, Imphal. It has been entrusted with the responsibility of human resource development in the NEH region of India in the discipline of agricultural engineering and post harvest technology. The college is shouldering responsible role in ensuing that the fruits of farm mechanization, utilization of natural resources including renewable energy, improved practices of soil & water management and post harvest technology etc. are made available to variety of stakeholders in the NEH region, so that its rich bio-resources are properly utilized through scientific and technological interventions to bring economic prosperity to the region. Besides developing trained and skilled human resource, the college has been concentrating to serve as centre of excellence for need based location specific technology generation and refinement as well as for effective capacity building of different stake holders including farmers, farm women, processors, entrepreneurs, SHGs/NGOs and extension education functionaries associated with the development of agriculture in the region. Since inception in 2006, the college has been striving to fulfill its responsibilities despite of several constraints related to locational remoteness, inadequate physical logistics and difficulty in filling up higher level of faculty and scientific positions.

The College is now 10 years old and has achieved national recognition though its outputs in terms of trained human resource, research & development achievements and extension education related activities in addition to development of unique infrastructure, visible as modern research laboratories, experiential education oriented pilot plants and workshop, vibrant agricultural technology information centre, agri-business incubation facilities and unique farmers produce processing-cum-skill development centre. It's passed out students are now placed in ICAR as Scientists, faculty in colleges, as development officer in state governments of NE region, as industry personnel and PG student as scholars for higher studies in national institutes like IIT & IARI and many SAUs. Out of 37 technologies developed by college, many have been adopted, a patent has been filed, and for few others requests for industrial collaboration received .

Continuous efforts were made by the college and university to enhance the capabilities of the teachers and research workers by deputing many of them for higher studies and by allowing them to participate in various training programmes including international training and seminars/conferences etc. To my satisfaction, the year 2015-16 has proved to be an eventful year in the brief history of the college ahead of its long journey which will demand more dedication and commitment on part of all teaching, non-teaching, scientific and administrative staff of the college to fulfill the dream of becoming an Institution of Excellence in the NEH region, with distinct visibility.

My complements are for the efforts made so far by the Dean and other staff of the college and I with pleasure present to the readers the success story of CAEPHT, Gangtok
